About Nagarik Palika

Why this exists

Anyone who has stood in a ward office queue knows the feeling: the clerk asks for a कागजात you’ve never heard of, the form is in dense Nepali, and you’re not sure whether you’ve filled the right box. That gap between everyday life and official language is why we started Nagarik Palika.

We’re not trying to turn everyone into a lawyer. We just want you to leave the queue with a clearer sense of what was asked, what document might help, and what to double-check before you spend another day going back.

What’s on the site

There’s a bilingual glossary built from Kanuni Shabdakosh and Saral Sewa terms — the kind of words that show up on land, citizenship, tax, and business paperwork.

You’ll also find templates and short “things to keep in mind” checklists for situations people actually face: buying land, starting a small business, loans, family papers, and so on.

The calculators cover salary tax, EMI, land area, registration tax, capital gains, and vehicle tax — numbers that matter in Nepal, not generic foreign formulas.

Sajilo Kanun is our research tool for the २०७४ Muluki codes (civil, civil procedure, criminal, and criminal procedure). It pulls cited दफा text and links to sources. It isn’t open to the whole internet; we give access by invitation or after reviewing a demo request.

What we are not

This is not a government website. We aren’t run by a ministry, ward office, DAO, Malpot, or court, and we don’t speak for them.

We don’t issue citizenship papers, stamp applications, or promise that any office will accept a particular form. If something here seems useful, treat it as a starting point and confirm with the office that actually decides.

Nothing on Nagarik Palika replaces advice from a lawyer who knows your facts. Personal cases turn on details a web page can’t see.

How we keep material honest

Glossary lines lean on public dictionaries and Saral Sewa materials. Templates are written to be readable; we tweak them when rules shift, but procedures still change ward by ward, so check locally.

Sajilo Kanun answers come from searching published law text. Before you rely on anything in a notice, petition, or contract, open the official PDF and read the full दफा yourself.

Who it’s for

Mostly people dealing with ward, DAO, Malpot, tax, and similar offices — students, shop owners, journalists, and anyone who’d rather understand a form before signing it.

Lawyers and clerks use it too, as a quick lookup. That doesn’t mean the site can stand in for professional judgment on a live file.
